Sodalite Meaning

Sodalite was discovered in 1811 at the Ilimaussaq complex in Greenland and was considered an ornamental stone in 1891 when they found extensive deposits of this crystalline material in Ontario, Canada. It became known as "Princess Blue" by the Canadian public when Princess Margaret of England visited Bancroft Canada, fell in love with the sodalite look and chose this crystal as the interior decoration for her "Marlborough House". It means comrade in Latin.

Sodalite is a sodium aluminum silicate chloride. Its name refers to the sodium content in the mineral.
